THE HUFFINGTON POST by Yasmin Mogahed March 31, 2010 10:38 AM
Nine members of a Christian militia group, Hutaree, were charged Monday with plotting to kill a police officer and slaughter scores more with homemade bombs. According to the indictment, the actions were done in hopes of igniting an uprising against the U.S. government. News of this terror plot is likely to spark a great deal of discussion around the idea of domestic terrorism. But there are some things that are not likely to be part of that discourse. For example, we're not likely to hear experts discussing whether or not Christian doctrine teaches its followers to overthrow governments and kill people. And, although the Hutaree website quotes scripture passages that allude to battle and sacrificing lives for the greater cause, the Bible is not likely to become condemned for inspiring acts of terror. Hutaree means "Christian Warrior," yet the American public is not likely to blame Christianity. And Homeland Security probably isn't going to single out all people with Christian names in the airport security line. The FBI most likely isn't going to start wire-tapping Churches and Christian homes, and it's unlikely that the whole world will be expecting every peace-loving Christian to apologize for actions they had nothing to do with -- just because it was done in their name.
In his own words:...."I was raised by my grandparents
in Greenville, South Carolina in a very strict Methodist home. In my teenage
years, I

became very involved in the church and was studying at a small Bible
college in my hometown with the intention of eventually enrolling in Bob Jones
University. I was learning to read the Bible in Hebrew and Greek and was very
interested in textual criticism of the Bible. It was during these years of
intense Bible study that I read the Bible cover to cover a half a dozen times.
In doing so, I realized there were many inconsistencies and contradictions. not
only in the text, but in the message preached by Jesus himself and what I had
been taught all my life based on the writings of Paul. I then realized the
Bible was not the inerrant Word of God as I had always been taught. I eventually
left Christianity and searched for the truth about God elsewhere...Read more

The United States opposes Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles’ decision to jam Voice of America’s Amharic Service and condemns his comparison of their programming to Radio Mille Collines of Rwanda. Comparing a respected and professional news service to a group that called for genocide in Rwanda is a baseless and inflammatory accusation that seeks only to deflect attention away from the core issue.
The Prime Minister may disagree with news carried in Voice of America’s Amharic Service broadcasts; however, a decision to jam VOA broadcasts contradicts the Government of Ethiopia’s frequent public commitments to freedom of the press. We note that the Ethiopian Constitution states that all citizens have the right to freedom of expression “without any interference” and that this right shall include freedom to seek, receive, and impart information and ideas of all kinds, “regardless of frontiers.” The Constitution further notes that freedom of the press shall specifically include “prohibition of any form of censorship.” We look to the Government of Ethiopia to abide by its constitution.
We call on the Ethiopian Government to protect the universal and fundamental right of freedom of expression.
(By: Shazia Kamal) You see the commercials. You see the ads. You see the billboards. The 2010 Census Campaign is HERE.
So what is the hype?
The Census is a population count mandated by the United States Constitution, to be taken every ten years. The year 2010 is a historic one for this campaign in that it will be the most widely publicized Census survey and one that will present a new, current portrait of America.
It is crucial that every single individual in the United States BE COUNTED. Look for the Census Form in your mail in Mid-March An accurate population count will determine how 400 billion dollars in federal funds will be distributed to counties and cities.
The people from Muslim majority countries are an integral part of this country and should make sure to participate in this survey in order to eventually benefit from these federal funds....Read more
